May 5, 2009 - Call To Action
AMA has announced that a federal bill has been introduced in Congress that is attempting to shut down another 24 Million acres of "public" land for use, access or enjoyment of those who ride motorcycles and ATVs. The hearing was held in the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands of the Committee on Natural Resources. The legislation is HR980, referred to as the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act. "This bill is especially disconcerting due to the fact that it's being proposed by a representative from a densely populated urban area, New York City," said AMA Vice President for Government Relations, Ed Moreland. "In fact, it is being considered without the support of a single member of Congress who represents the affected districts. Shouldn't the people who live in these areas have some say in whether or not they should be banned from riding in them?" Click here to read Ed Moreland's (AMA Government Relations) full statement.
Please consider calling or writing to your Representative or Senator in Washington. Public lands are not public lands if they cannot be used and enjoyed by the citizens who own the country, either on foot or on a responsibly used off-road motorcycle or ATV.
For additional information, you can visit the AMA's website, or go to the web site of an organization that is working to keep public lands public, Responsible Trails America.
May 5, 2009 - May Designated as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
The American Motorcyclist Association ("AMA") announced today that the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 269 today, which designates May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. In addition to the designation, HR269 highlights several safety measures for motorcyclists, including the voluntary use of helmets and other protective gear, avoiding riding while under the influence of alcohol and obtaining the proper training and licensing before operating a motorcycle on public roads. These are measures supported by Billings Motorcycle Club, and join AMA in applauding the efforts of the House to highlight these important issues.

Billings Motorcycle Club - Welcome
The Billings Motorcycle Club ("BMC") was established in 1914 in Billings, Montana. For nearly 100 years, despite geographical separation from much of the motorcycle world, Billings has remained on the leading edge of motorcycling. In fact, BMC was one of the first organizations in the United States to partner with the American Motorcyclist Association ("AMA"), receiving AMA Charter #15 in 1924, the year that the AMA was formed. BMC is also one of the only membership based clubs in the United States to acquire and own land for the riding, racing and off-road enjoyment of its members.
The club promotes a variety of competitive and non-competitive events each year. These range from club member only rides, such as the Easter Egg and Treasure Hunt for the kids, to motocross and arenacross events, cross country events, flat track events, up to the club's signature event, the Great American Championship Motorcycle Hill Climb. The Great American has led Billings to be known as the Motorcycle Hill Climbing Capital of the World™. Learn more about the many BMC events....
BMC is a member driven organization, with over 350 member families helping the club on a volunteer basis maintain the club-owned property, promote more than 20 competition events per year, and serve as ambassadors to the local community and region. It is a rare situation where such a large organization can function without paid management. But such is the case for BMC, where all club functions are handled by the BMC Board and its membership on a volunteer basis. Because of the volunteer nature of the club, the number of club memberships is limited. Learn more about BMC.....
The club has a history of community and regional involvement. BMC has throughout the years partnered with the Bureau of Land Management to assist with the maintanence of the South Hills, Ah Nei and other off road recreational areas. And as the promoter of the single largest motorsports event in the region, the Great American, BMC has reached out to the City of Billings and Yellowstone County to build relationships with local businesses, government, law enforcement and other organizations to assure an exciting and safe environment for those who attend. BMC is providing staffing and logistical support for RASE LLC for The Warm Up® Rally and Races. We are pleased to announce that The Warm Up® - 2008 was selected as one of the Chamber of Commerce's 'pick six' events in Billings for the second year in a row.
For nearly 100 years, BMC has been a proud member of the Billings community and an organization actively involved in the promotion of the sport of motorcycling. Thank you for visiting the BMC web site. If you have any questions, please feel free to send us a message by accessing the Contact link above. We hope that you find what you are looking for on our web site. Ride The Big Sky®!

632 entries in the Pro and Amateur classes competed over the 2 1/2 day event. The event began on Friday night, with the first of the Pro and Amateur classes running on the "trophy" hill beginning at 5:00 pm. A special thanks to SCOTT USA for their support of the "trophy" event this year, the top three in each class were awarded Scott value certificates! Saturday, both the Pro and Amateurs competed simultaneously on two separate hills beginning at 8:00 am. Sunday at 8:00 am the Pros kicked off the final day on the "money" hill, ending with the Great American runoff.
The Great American hill was particularly challenging in 2007, with over 100' of the hill having slid down in the heavy spring rains. Few of the pros were able to go over the hill, including in the Great American Championship portion of the event. The Championship runoff started at the conclusion of the regular Pro classes on the "money" hill, pitting the top qualifiers from the Pro classes in a two run shot at the big money. The Championship was exciting, with Shannon Chamberlain topping the hill slightly faster than former GAHC champion Davey Johnston, to claim his third Great American Championship with over 10,000 spectators cheering him on.
